Supporting IPTOs Asset Performance Management
Customer Greece’s Independent Power Transmission Operator, IPTO
Project duration 18 months

Challenge

IPTO is the Power Transmission Operator of Greece’s electrical energy. It’s transmission network, comprises a wide range of technical assets, with varying types and specifications. Effective maintenance planning and management of these assets is crucial. Therefore, IPTO decided to enhance its approach by integrating an Asset Performance Management System (APMS), which, among others, would support state-of-the-art maintenance strategies, including Predictive Maintenance (PdM). The new system, should have the ability to cover specific requirements, such as the following:

  • Seamlessly communication with various other systems.
  • Collection, migration, validation, normalization, processing, and consolidation of data from various sources, including Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices and edge gateways.
  • Reliability Analytics, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (ML and AI) modeling.
  • Specific visualization and reporting capabilities.
  • Implementation of advanced maintenance strategies and methods.

Team’s Areas of Expertise

PLANET’s team supports IPTO through every phase of system development and implementation. Our project management and quality assurance services are seamlessly integrated with all technical and operational processes. Leveraging extensive experience and expertise, our multidisciplinary team provides its support across all project domains.

  • Project Management and Quality Assurance. Methodological framework, planning, risk management, organizational control, implementation, monitoring, communication. Consulting services regarding compliance monitoring, planning, process, progress and outputs’ monitoring, evaluation and quality assessment, among many others.
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT), including Operational Technology (OT), Internet of Things (IoT), Cybersecurity and Regulatory Compliance, among many others.
  • Data Science, including Data Engineering, Data Quality and Management, Reliability Analytics, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (ML and AI), Visual Analytics and Business Intelligence.
  • Electrical Engineering, especially Power Engineering and Industrial Electronics, including Electrical Energy and Power Systems Engineering.
  • Reliability Engineering, involving asset risk, cost, maintenance and performance.

The core ICT solution used in the project, is IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS), being one of the strongest and leading for Asset Performance Management.

Technology, Data and AI, along with our Team’s consulting, experience and expertise, to support IPTO in achieving a sophisticated and impactful Asset Performance Management integration, throughout its strategic roadmap.

Results & Impact

The project will provide IPTO with tools and insights, in order to:

  • Have a holistic, timely available and accurate view of its Assets’ health and performance.
  • Minimize failures, cost and unplanned downtime events.
  • Improve Asset Management, WorkForce Management and Supply chain planning.
  • Optimize Asset Investment Planning (AIP).
  • Automate decision making.

The Asset Performance Management System will enable IPTO to evolve, based on more efficient, sophisticated, proactive and cost-effective information. One of the first Predictive Maintenance projects in Greece, to optimize the reliability and performance of the country’s electricity transmission network.
