Challenge

OSE, aiming to evolve into a modern digital infrastructure operator, is proceeding with a radical digital transformation, aligned with the Digital Transformation Bible 2020-2025 and the EU priorities for competitive rail networks. This initiative entails modernizing infrastructure, upgrading internal operation and organisation, reducing operating costs and providing improved passenger services through innovation and modern information systems.

Within the framework of the project, the organisation will develop and implement new technologies and services, namely:

  • Ticket Management System (AFCS) offering interoperability with the corresponding systems of the Athens Urban Transport Organizations (OASA) and Thessaloniki (TSETH).
  • Smart Stations for a modern travel experience.
  • Centralized Systems (CC):   
    • MIS Telematics/Passenger Information, and MIS Digital Service/Request Management with their respective interconnections with existing infrastructures of external bodies   
    • Central Management Software.
  • Studies and services (installation, training, pilot operation, project management).

These improvements will redefine the travel experience, making it more efficient, seamless, and secure.

Approach

PLANET's team faced the challenges of this project around three main categories of services:

A. Design of new Systems, including the following services:

  • Mapping and evaluation of the current situation
  • Οutlining intervention areas
  • Text Box: With integrated ticketing, real-time passenger information, and smart stations, OSE is stepping into the future. By combining innovation, efficiency, and seamless connectivity, this digital transformation project sets the foundation for a modern, cost-effective, and passenger-friendly railway network
    Preparing a comprehensive Request for Proposal

By combining innovation, efficiency, and seamless connectivity, this digital transformation project sets the foundation for a modern, cost-effective, and passenger-friendly railway network.

B: Securing Funding. Planet A.E. empowered OSE by expertly drafting the Standard Proposal Form and Technical Bulletin for the project, leveraging experience for optimal results. With strategic guidance, they defined project goals, budgets, and ensured project’s viability. Additionally, we facilitated smooth communication with the Managing Authority, ensuring seamless funding process and integration.

C. Tender Process Support (currently in progress). The PLANET team expertly supports OSE in the procedure for the nomination of the Contractor, driving public consultations and fine-tuning the final Tender document. With seamless collaboration with the Managing Authority, compliance and transparency is ensured vital assistance to prospective bidders is provided, making every step of the competitive process smooth and efficient.

This initiative is expected to enhance OSE’s operations and elevate the passenger experience offering:

  • Better passenger service through cards and mobiles for ticket purchase.
  • Faster itineraries and boarding.
  • Reduction of operating expenses and ticket evasion as well as increased revenue for providers and the state.
  • Facilitation of passengers combining different public transport with access to additional services.
  • Increased ticket sales channels with enhanced transaction security.
